About Us

A modified excerpt from an editorial published by the Bracebridge Examiner, written by Managing Editor Bruce Hickey on Wednesday, October 29th, 2008:

Quietly, steadily and assertively over the past two years a group has been working to give Muskoka an incredible new resource. Thanks to their efforts, 211 Muskoka was launched on November 3rd, 2008 and began to make a positive difference in people's lives. Through a phone or computer, residents have easy and all-hours access to information that can assist them on a multitude of fronts, from health to education and social services.

Even better, 211 offers help in the form of referral specialists. There's no automated attendant pushing you through an endless stream of options.

The arrival of 211 in the Muskoka region is something to be celebrated. It also needs to be recognized that Muskoka is one of the first places outside the greater Toronto Area to receive this service. That didn't happen overnight. It took months of hard work, lobbying and perseverance to make it a reality.

Muskoka Healthy Communities, North Simcoe Muskoka Community Care Access Centre, the Muskoka District Emergency Services Committee, the District of Muskoka, Muskoka Community Futures, the Bracebridge Public Library and the United Way of Greater Simcoe County all played a role in making this happen.

The decision to bring 211 to Muskoka shows vision and leadership. People today and into the future will access services differently, and the amount of information to be sorted for our consumption increases daily. 211 can meet these demands.

Even if you don't need 211 today, educate yourself on using the service, it will help you understand its value.

211 needs support now and in the years to come so that it may thrive and meet purposes beyond its current capacity. Knowledge is power, and 211 can empower everyone.
